🌸 Naamakaranam – The Sacred Naming Ceremony
Naamakaranam is a traditional Hindu naming ceremony where a newborn child is formally given a name in the presence of family, elders, and divine blessings. The ritual is performed according to Vedic traditions and is an important milestone in the child’s life.
This ceremony is usually conducted on an auspicious muhurtam, often based on the baby’s birth nakshatra (star) and horoscope. During the ritual, the chosen name is written on rice and softly whispered into the baby’s ear by the priest or an elder of the family.
Naamakaranam symbolizes the child’s official introduction to the world and society, while invoking divine protection, health, and prosperity for the child’s future.
The ceremony is traditionally performed on the 11th, 16th, 21st, or 27th day after birth, though many families may choose another auspicious date depending on their tradition and convenience.
